2ND ANNUAL LOCAL CANSTRUCTION®
COMPETITION ANNOUNCES WINNERS
ST. LOUIS, MO
-- NOVEMBER 8, 2001 -- More than 38,000 cans of food were used to help canstruct
9 competing structures in this years CANSTRUCTION®
competition held at Saint Louis Galleria.
Once everything has been canstructed,
a panel of celebrity judges determined the winners in 6 different categories including
"Best Meal," and "Best Use of Labels." Once the local winners were
announced, professional photographs were taken and sent on to compete nationally against
the local winners from 49 other cities. National winners will be announced in
2002. In 2000, the first-ever local CANSTRUCTION®
competition, St. Louis
recieved 3 of the 6 national awards. At a ceremony held at Saint Louis
Galleria's Garden Court, special guest emcee, Ed Goodman, host of Soft Rock 102.5 - KEZK, announced the
winners in each respective category.
To
help kick-off this year's CANSTRUCTION®
competition, students from Washington University helped canstruct an American
Flag at Saint Louis Galleria's food court made entirely from canned goods.
The national event has been in
existence since 1993 and collected more than 990,000 pounds of food last year for
hunger-relief organizations across the country. The nationwide goal for CANSTRUCTION® 2001
is 1.5 million pounds.
